If you’re anywhere near the Pyramid on the campus of Long Beach State in Long Beach, California be sure to visit the world championship of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. One of the largest gi-only tournaments anywhere, this year’s edition promises to have plenty of drama including a promised appearance by all-everything Roger Gracie from the UK, the newly revitalized Andre Galvao, fresh off his domination of the Pan Ams, where he won his black belt weight class and also the Abosolute division. If Galvao and Gracie meet in the finals of the Absolute expect it to be an epic battle. Also catching the eyes of BJJ fans everywhere is the first ever appearance of Kron Gracie, the son of BJJ legend Rickson Gracie, as a black belt competitor. Kron is currently on a 45 match win streak, all by submission, in the blue, purple and brown belt divisions. All eyes will be on him as he sees how he stacks up against the big boys. As an added bonus, Rickson Gracie himself will be coaching Kron throughout the tournament. So this is a great chance to see and perhaps even meet the most famous BJJ fighter of this generation in person.
